Easter Greetings

Cute Easter greetings ideas with this very easy to make cross card.

Materials required

Cross Greeting Card
Peel Offs
Decoupage Sheet
Adhesive

  1. Cut out the decoupage design you are going to use. If you are not sure how to decoupage we have instructions that can be found here.

  2. Fold the inside part of the card and glue to the main part. Decorate the card with the peel offs. We used a simple straight line but corner peel offs would work well.

  3. As you want part of the decoupage design to be over the edge of the cross we suggest you apply the glue for the base print on the actual card, not the decoupage. This means you won't be putting glue where you don't want it.

  4. Build up the layers on your decoupage and add a greeting. Your card is now finished and ready to send.

Hints and tips.

We have used just a small part of the decoupage design, not all the layers. This gave only a small part of the design which fitted perfectly on the cross card but also means we can make another card with the other parts.

When using peel offs lay them gently down and don't press firmly until it is in the right place. With straight lines start laying the peel off over the end and then trim to the card.

Happy crafting

Long Tall Mother's Day Card

Send special greetings to your Mum this Mothering Sunday with this long tall greeting card.

Materials required

Long Tall Mum Greeting Card
Paint
3d Decoupage Paper
Peel Offs
Glitter
Adhesives

  1. Paint the separate words making sure that you paint around the edge of the letters, not just the top side and leave them to dry.

  2. Cut out the base print for your decoupage and glue it to your card. You can either glue this one flat to the card or use foam pads or silicone to raise it off the card.

  3. Whilst the base print is drying cut out the next layer of the decoupage.  Once you are happy the base print is dry glue the next layer into position. Again leave to dry and cut out the next layer whilst you wait.

  4. If you want to add a bit of glitz to your card you can add it to the top layers of the decoupage. Use clear drying glue or the glue that already has the glitter mixed into it. Add small drops and gently move the glue around with your finger until it covers the area you want covered.

  5. Continue layering your 3d design until you have added all the layers. Carefully add a peel off greeting to your card.

  6. Add some glitter to the painted letters and once the glitter has dried glue the letters onto your card. Your card is now ready to send.

Hints & Tips

This card is ideal for a tall thin design, why not trim round one corner to complement the round edge of the card.

If you have a design with intricate parts just remember that you don't have to add all the parts, you can trim some layers down to make it easier.

If you are not sure you will get your peel off on straight then add it at an angle.

Happy crafting.

Surprise 3d Decoupage Valentine Card

Handmade 3d decoupage Valentine Greeting Card
Valentine 3d decoupage card

Send someone special a surprise greeting this Valentine's Day with this cute 3d decoupage card.

Materials required

Waving Card Template from Get In Shape Templates
3d Decoupage Paper
Peel Offs
Foam Pads or Silicone Glue for the decoupage and glue to stick the card together
Card

  1. Using the waving card template cut out the parts of the card. Fold the parts of the card but don't glue the parts together until you have decorated them.

  2. Cut out the decoupage design and starting with the base layer (the layer with the entire design showing) start to build your design on the front of your card. If you need instructions on how to 3d decoupage they can be found here.

  3. Add the peel offs to the front of the card and also to the inside part that will pop up to show your surprise greeting.

  4. Once the decoupage has dried, we would suggest leaving it for a couple of hours, glue all the parts of the waving card together.

Hints & Tips

If you need to make more than one card we suggest you work them at the same time. This will allow time for the silicone glue to dry between adding layers. If you are using foam pads you will not have to worry about drying time.

You don't need to use the whole of the decoupage design. We only used a small part of the design. If you use less layers you can also create 2 cards from the single design making your decoupage paper go further.

We suggest a good weight card for the base card; you don't want your card to sag!

Use a pair of tweezers to add the peel offs as they are smaller than fingers!

When you send your card you may want to add a little message explaining how to see the message. If you are very creative this could be in the form of a poem!

The waving card is ideal for any occasion, not just Valentine's Day. We also think it will be perfect for children and stood up to some vigorous pushing and pulling!

Happy crafting.

Recycled Christmas Cards

We wanted to give you some ideas for recycling your Christmas cards. The cards on the left are the original cards and on the right you can see how we have created new cards with just a few basic craft items.

Hints & Tips

When looking at greeting cards, don't just see the design the card company have made, look at all the elements in the card. For instance does it have a border, a greeting, a smaller design that can be used?

To create the top card in the pictures above, we used the oblong design and created a topper. Then we used the small design on the inside of the card. The greeting was taken from another card and to make it look like the other designs we used gold peel offs around the edge. The only craft supplies we used were some gold peel offs and some foam pads. Very quick and very easy to do. The rest of the red card can be used to punch out red love hearts for Valentines.

You could also just cut out the border and use it to frame a decoupage or a topper but don't ruin the tree as that can be used somewhere else.

The 2nd card was made using elements from 2 cards. We loved the flow of the Father Christmas but didn't like his legs! We trimmed him down and cut off a few of the hard pieces to cut like his beard and we also shortened his hat and cut the pom pom separately so it could be layered.

The tree was cut out as it was, we liked this design. To create the background we stamped snowflakes onto the card using embossing ink and left it to dry creating a watermark effect. Then again using foam pads we placed the cut out elements where we wanted them. Add a little glitter to Father Christmas and a peel off and another card is ready for next year!

Again we have kept the 2 Christmas trees and the Father Christmas to use on another card.

When adding glitter follow any lines that look like shadow. If you feel you've added too much glitter remove it with a cocktail stick before it dries.

A lot of cards are now coming with designs that look decoupaged, raised away from the card on foam pads. Just use a craft knife to cut through the foam pads, add some new pads and hey presto, another card ready for next year!

If a card has a sparkly background then use the background with a craft punch. We have punched some amazing snowflakes from background like this.

Don't just look at the front of the card. A lot of cards also have a small picture on the back which can be used.

We found that this is a fantastic excuse to have crafting friends over and have a recycle party. Sharing ideas, tea and cake are a great combination. You will find that people will look at a card and see something different to what you see.

And lastly the most important tip - have fun.

Happy recycling.

Christmas Box Card

Send the picture perfect Christmas card with this cute box card.

Materials required

Box Card
3D Decoupage
Adhesives
Peel Offs
Ribbon Bow
Glitter

  1. Carefully fold the card so you can see where you are putting your design.

  2. Cut out the base design of the 3d decoupage and glue it in place. Fold the card so you use the window to help position the design. Don't glue the card together at the moment as it will make it awkward to stick your 3d decoupage.

  3. Cut out the rest of the decoupage and add glitter if you want to. This design has the glitter added at the edge of the snow to give it a bit of sparkle. Remember to let the glitter dry before shaping and sticking your layers in place.

  4. Add the decoration to the outside of the card. This is easier if the card is not glued together. The design uses a glitter peel off around the edge of the window, a greeting peel off and is finished with an organza bow.

  5. Finally glue the box card together. This can be a little messy so be careful not to get glue on your design. Your card is now finished and ready to send.

Hints & Tips

Don't be tempted to glue the card together until you finish as it is very difficult to add the decoupage design on the inside.

Glitter can also be added instead of a peel off around the edge. The glitter used in the design is Art Glitter which is a very fine glitter and can be applied using a fine tip on the glue pot.

Don't worry if you can't do a straight line, it will make it look more like snow.

If your design is too small for the aperture then use a backing paper or peel offs to make the design look larger.

If you don't want to cut out a design, we stock die cut decoupage which you just pop out. They can be found here.

The box card can be used for a variety of designs. Why not use it to hang butterflies inside or for Valentine's Day hearts!

Happy crafting.

Teabag Folded Christmas Card

If you'd like to try teabag folding, this Christmas card is perfect.

Materials required

6 x  5cm squares - The paper in the design comes from the Popcorn Christmas CD
Glitter
Printable Acetate
Backing Paper
Adhesive
Peel Offs

1st teabag fold

Fold the squares in half on the diagional making sure that the design is on the outside.

With the design on the outside and with a corner of the square pointing towards you, fold the right hand corner to the centre to create a kite shape. Do the same with the left hand side.

Once the squares have been folded, add some glitter to the edges .

Fold and glitter all 6 squares. Take a scrap piece of card or paper glue three kite shapes on to the scrap paper making sure the long points join together.

Now lay 2 more folded squares on top of the bottom layer you've just glued. This time the long pointed ends need to overlap a bit. Then finally add the final folded square making sure to hide the overlapped ends on the previous row. To finish the tree add a star to the top.

Trim the scrap paper so it can't be seen. Using the printable acetate print a suitable background for your tree. The design in the photo comes from the Popcorn Christmas CD. Alternatively you could decorate the acetate with glitter or peel offs.

To glue the acetate to the card run a fine line of clear drying glue along the fold line. Be careful if you have used ink that will run when it gets wet. Don't worry too much if you get a smudge, this will be hidden with a peel off.

Once the acetate and card are dry use a border peel off around the edge. This will give a professional finish but also hide any glue marks.

Finally glue your tree in place and then add a peel off greeting.

Hints & tips

Don't worry about not cutting your squares square. They can be trimmed once they have been folded.

Why not make a smaller tree, just cut smaller squares. You can also use wrapping paper to create the squares. You don't need special paper.

Don't be too straight with your glitter, it makes it look snowy if the line is jagged. Make sure the glitter has dried before putting the tree together.

Remember when using acetate that any glue put on the back of the acetate can be seen. If you don't want to use glue why not use brads.

If your not very good at putting peel offs on a straight line, just add them at an angle.

Happy crafting.

Ho Ho Ho Christmas Card

Make an unusual greeting card for Christmas. Add a bit of glitter and decoupage and the card is ready to send.

Materials required

Ho Ho Ho Card Kit
Glitter
3d Decoupage
Peel Offs
Backing Paper

Adhesives

  1. Add glue to the Ho Ho Ho wording and sprinkle with glitter. To do this use scrap paper and add the glue on one piece and then carefully move the wording to another piece of paper and sprinkle with glitter. Leave to dry but after a few minutes move the wording with a cocktail stick to make sure the wording does not stick to the paper. Do this every so often whilst the wording is drying.

  2. Stick backing paper into the middle of the card so that it shows behind the Ho Ho Ho.

  3. Decide where you are going to place the peel offs and the decoupage design and then cut out the 3d decoupage design you are going to use and start sticking it into place. For more instructions on 3d decoupage click here.

  4. Once the wording has dried, stick into place. Add the peel off and your ready to send your Christmas card.

Hints and tips

If you are using die cut decoupage sheets, trim the individual pieces before pulling them out, this makes it easier to handle.

Don't trim the backing paper before putting it in place, trim the paper once you have stuck it down. There will be a small amount showing at the bottom but this is how the card was designed. If you don't want this you can trim the card.

You can add glitter to the decoupage but do this before you put the piece in place. Remember that only the top layers will need to be glittered.

This card will work standing up so any design can be used.

Happy crafting

Popcorn The Bear

Popcorn The Bear is a special little bear with the 'aaahhh' factor. This adorable little bear is perfect for someone special.

Materials required

Popcorn The Bear CD Rom
Popcorn The Bear Rubber Stamps
Cosmic Shimmer Mica Pigment
Craft Paper
Foam Pads and glue
Peel Offs
Decoredge Scissors

Card
Double Sided Sticky Tape
Thread

  1. Load the cd into your computer and select the image sheets, then choose design 3, this is Popcorn and Souffle fishing. Print the design out on thick paper, we used the decoupage paper from Crafter's Companion. Then choose co-ordinating paper and design 9, this has the fish on it. Again print this out on thick paper.

  2. Carefully cut out Popcorn and Souffle sitting on the dock fishing. Then using shaped scissors cut out two strips from the backing paper with the fish on it. You need one strip to sit on the bottom of the card and the other to sit above it to create the waves.

  3. Using the Cosmic Shimmer pigment, spray a background of blue onto your card. Then add some yellow for the effect of the sun. Leave the card to dry.

  4. Decide where you want the strips to go on your card and then stick one down with double sided sticky tape. Use foam pads to stick the second strip below the first so that it looks like waves. Place the foam pads on each end of the strip and then in the middle, this will leave gaps so that you can hide the fish behind the waves.

  5. Using the rubber stamps, stamp a couple of fish and then colour them in. Cut them out and then glue thread to them.

  6. Glue the other end of the thread to the fishing rods so the fish dangle down.

  7. Using foam pads, stick Popcorn above the waves and then add a peel off and your ready to send your card.

Hints & Tips

The design can also be created in 3d decoupage. To create the fluffy edge to Popcorn and Souffle, cut small angled lines going from right to left and then do the same with the lines going from left to right. This will mean you cut out tiny triangles and it creates the fluffy edge.

If you don't have the rubber stamps then you can cut out, punch out or look on the internet for a fish design.

If you want a front and back to your fish, scan the finished fish into the computer and then flip them so you get a mirror reflection of the fish, then print out.

When using Cosmic Shimmer don't worry if you can't paint. If the paint looks too heavy then spritz it with water and it lightens up. The other trick is to let the water run down your card. This will help spread the paint and colour the card.

Happy crafting.

A Special Fan Card For Mum

A special unique fan card for your special mum.

A4 fan sheet
Foam pads
Brad
Peel offs
Ribbon
Greeting card
Thread and selotape

1.    Cut out the fan shapes from the sheet. Use a metal ruler for the straight lines and then cut around the tops free hand

2.     Hold all 8 pieces together and make a small hole through all of them and insert the brad.

3.    This is the hard part. In order to join all the fan pieces so it opens like a fan you will need to selotape thread to the back of each piece. You will also need to keep in mind that you want the fan to shut. I found it worked if you selotaped one piece of thread to the first fan part, then opened it to the position you want the fan to open to and then stick the thread to the next fan piece but lower than the first stuck thread. Then on the next piece you will need to stick the thread in line with the position of the first thread. This will create a sort of zig zag effect which will take into account the fan opening and closing.

4.     Cut out the decoupage parts from the sheet and glue this in place.

5.    With the fan fully opened work out where to glue the fan so the card can still stand up when the fan is fully opened. Before sticking the fan down place a piece of ribbon behind the fan and then stick the fan to the card.

6.     Add embellishments to the card. Peel offs work very well for this and then add your greeting.

7.    Finally close the fan and tie a bow with the ribbon. Your card is now ready to send.

Hints & Tips

The fan does not have to open and close, just glue each piece in place on your card.

I always place peel offs using a tweezer, much easier to see where you are placing the peel off.

Although the card says Happy Birthday it can be used for so many different occasions, especially

  Mother's Day

  Happy Crafting

Christmas Tag Jump Card

A quick and easy card for those last minute greetings!

Materials required

Jump card
The Orange Blossom Crafting Treasury
Peel Offs

Paper
Glue and foam pads
Ribbon

  1. Place the Crafting Treasury in your pc and once the cd has loaded print the plan tags, mouse backing paper and mouse 3d decoupage. We suggest you set your printer at the highest print settings to get a good quality print.
  2. Glue the red and green tags to card and once they have dried cut them out and punch a hole in them.
  3. Cut out the decoupage mouse and start layering the design on the red tag.
  4. Glue together the jump card as the instructions. Use a good strong glue and make sure it is dry before adding the design.
  5. Cut a strip from the mouse backing paper. Glue the strip onto the jump card and trim.
  6. Add the wording peel off to the green tag. To get the straight lines for the backing strip, trim the sheet of wording peel off at the edge.  Apply the peel off strip to each side of the mouse backing paper and trim.
  7. Using foam pads attach the green tag to the jump card and then place the decoupaged red tag on top, matching up the holes but making sure you can still read the wording.
  8. Finally attach a piece of ribbon through both holes on the tags and your ready to send.

Hints and tips

The cd is packed full of various backgrounds and designs that will work well with this card.

Make sure the decoupage is dried before you add to the card. Instructions on how to 3d can be found here.

Jump cards are great fun to send as they jump up when they are pulled out of the card and can be used for any occasion.

A pocket card with a male design.

Materials required

Jacket Pocket Card Kit
Adhesive Fabric
Glue
Glitter
Gems
Foam Pads

Scissors
Cutting mat with a grid on it
Sticky Tape

  1. Stick the tie and knot onto the adhesive fabric and cut around them, glue these two together. Fold over the collar on the shirt and glue the tie underneath the collar. Place a sticky foam pad underneath each collar to keep it raised up.
  2. Take some sticky tape and put it on your clothes. This will reduce the tackiness so that it won't damage your card. Using the grid on the cutting mat, stick down the jacket with a line going straight through the middle of the card. The lines on the grid can now be used as a guide when drawing the lines for the pin stripe. Run glue along the length of the card and then sprinkle with glitter. Repeat this with the pocket. When the glue is dry turn over and do the lapels.
  3. When the jacket is dry glue gems down the middle for the buttons, glue the handkerchief and the pocket on and finally fold over the tabs and glue the jacket pocket together.
  4. Slip the shirt into the pocket and send.
Hints and tips

You don't have to do pin stripes. Why not rubber stamp a pattern, or use peel offs. Use a flower and you can create a woman's jacket.

Adhesive fabric doesn't have to be used for the tie, again rubber stamps, peel offs or paint can be used.

When working the pin stripes work from one end to the other so the ruler doesn't ruin the lines you've already done.

Any embellishments can be used, why not add a flower to the lapel.

Father's Day Card

Click for a larger view.

Quirky, fun card for that special Dad.

Materials required

Wine bottle card kit
Peel Offs
Wine Man 3d decoupage sheet
Foam pads or silicone glue
Scissors or craft knife

  1. Glue the lid and the label onto the wine bottle. Decorate with the peel offs.
  2. The designs are numbered on the decoupage sheet. Cut out part 1 which is the whole picture. Glue him to the wine bottle with silicone glue.
  3. Cut out each part of the man following the numbers and carefully glue into place. Hold the card up at eye level so you can check that you have the layers in place.
Hints & Tips

The peel offs will go round bends, you need to guide them whilst pushing them into place.

Alphabet peel offs allow you to personalise your card.

For instructions on how to work 3d decoupage click
here. This is a very good sheet to start with as the design is large and there aren't too many small parts to cut out.

Silicone glue allows you time to move the decoupage piece into place as it needs time to dry. Foam pads are quick and less messy but stick immediately, although they can be removed by slicing them with a craft knife. Apply the silicone glue with a cocktail stick so you can get the glue where you want it.

If you don't want to cut out designs,
die cut sheets come ready cut, you just pop them out and glue them down. Very easy, quick and ideal for children.

If you have any problems or questions we have Window Messenger
